What IT executives have said about these courses...

"As an IT executive with more than thirty years of management experience in the securities, aerospace, and computer services industries, I related personally to every key point. At times, I uncomfortably recalled how poorly I handled similar circumstances in the past and, for still others, I proudly remembered how well I dealt with them. Thus, all of the important points in the tapes ("Political Skills for CIOs") came back to me as either a new lesson learned or an experience re-learned. These should be required viewing for every aspiring IT manager and every MBA student in any major."

Former CIO of NASD/Nasdaq Stock Market and McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Information Services Company.

"I was quite impressed with my preview copy of Communicating IT's Value. It contained much useful and practical advice, in some difficult and tricky areas. I can easily find seminar materials on "Managing Staff" or "Project Management", but finding some politically savvy help on building solid business relationships with the business units is next to impossible--Glenn's seminar is a welcome assist in this area. Communicating our value to our firm, and improving our business alignment are high priorities for us. I plan to have my staff watch different sections of the seminar at our earliest opportunity. I heartily recommend this seminar to IT managers in large and medium-sized organizations. "

CIO, multi-billion dollar division of a Fortune 20 company.

"After reviewing just the first tape and a half, I was convinced that the seminar (Communicating IT's Value) was worth a couple of thousand dollars. I chuckled at recognizing some of the tactics I had used as a CIO of a 30,000 employee firm, and was quite pleased to find several new ideas that I could use immediately. This will also be a great help in mentoring some of my staff, that need help in 'organizational dynamics'. I don't know of any other place to get this critical information, and, having worked with Glenn in the past, I can enthusiastically recommend this seminar to all IT executives that are faced with the challenge of demonstrating their contribution to their organization. I look forward to Glenn's next series, on Political Skills for CIO's--a topic on which most of us could use every new idea we could find!

Excerpts from the CIO Magazine review (page 22, August 1, 1999 issue):

"'What works?'...when it comes to communicating the value of IT investments...Glenn M. Miller has the answer..."

"CIO's and IT directors will find techniques and tricks that can help them assess the real payoff from IT and deliver that message effectively to the executive team."

"Much of the art of communicating IT's value is political, so Miller has put together a second videotape series called Political Skills for IT."

"But cumulatively, Miller's recommendations will help an embattled information officer and IT department turn the corner in communicating their value to the business"

About these videos and about Glenn M. Miller:

These videos were shot in a private home, using 8mm analog camcorders in 1998/1999. Even though the principles in them are timeless, some of the references to specific technologies are now dated (e.g. Intranet, Bulletin Boards). They are very amateurish (e.g., I did not learn about 3-point lighting until the second of the two series!). The first one (Communicating IT's Value) was created using Macromedia Director, Adobe Premiere, and ULead Media Studio Pro. They have many audio noises and render glitches, but the content--if you can endure the production values--will be useful to many, many people. They were originally offered/sold in VHS format. They were vidcapped from the original SVHS tapes (using Media Studio Pro) in 2008, and Camtasia studio was used to create the current MP4 versions for on-line viewing in 2011. Communicating IT's Value is approximately 6 hours total running time, and Political Skills for CIOs is approximately 10 hours total (and it builds upon the material in Communicating IT's Value).

Glenn M. Miller was involved in all aspects of IT/IS, from programmer to consultant to senior IT management to executive business management. In his career experience of 40 years, he was fortunate to be able to help numerous IT executives with strategy, alignment, and best practices in IT shops of all sizes and cultures. He has spoken on technology management issues and trends before tens of thousands of people worldwide and has authored many articles in the industry press. Mr. Miller obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from Mississippi State University in 1972 and 1973 respectively. [Note: Mr. Miller is currently employed exclusively by a financial services firm, and is no longer is active in the seminar field. He is not available for speaking engagements, consulting, offering advice, or answering email questions.]
